We have a bit of a big occasion coming up soon: we’re getting married. So instead of the usual Top Ten Tuesday, we wanted to look back on some of the books we’ve read together throughout our relationship. We’ve picked out books to read together ever since we started dating and it’s always interesting to see how different our perspectives are on the same books.
Here are our top ten books we’ve read together:
The Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon ~ Spring 2013
This was the first book we read together, and we absolutely loved its comic-book-style adventures.
The Marriage Plot by Jeffrey Eugenides ~ Spring 2014
We read this one together during a time of great change and while so many disparage this Eugenides novel we both enjoyed it.
The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas ~ Fall 2014
It took us months of diligent reading to get through this 1,200-page tome, but it remains one of our favorite classics.
The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon ~ Winter 2015
Indiana picked this one up on a whim, without reading too much about the plot and was immediately swept into the story, bringing Pete on board soon after.
How to Be Both by Ali Smith ~ Spring 2017
We had so many discussions about this book. It seemed like after each chapter we had so much to talk about.
You Shall Know Our Velocity! by Dave Eggers ~ Summer 2017
This is one of our favorite Dave Eggers books. Its naive protagonists and their unbelievable shenanigans are a joy to read about.
A Visit From the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan ~ Summer 2017
We enjoyed the short-story-like chapters of this ambitious little book, which covers a range of eras and even moves into the future.
Oathbringer by Brandon Sanderson ~ Fall 2017
We were so confident we’d love this book that we bought two copies to read simultaneously.
An Absolutely Remarkable Thing by Hank Green – Fall 2018
This was a book club pick, and we had a ton of fun with its frustrating yet entertaining protagonist and completely bizarre plot.
Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand by Helen Simonson ~ Fall 2019
This was another book club pick that we really enjoyed and one that we’re still talking about a little over a year after we read it.
Congratulations on your wedding! I wish you both the best. I’ve been trying to read Oathbringer, but it’s so long I keep avoiding it. But quite a few of these are on my list to read.

Thank you! Oathbringer is one of our favorites. While the page count is intimidating, the pacing is perfect and it’s filled with many of our favorite scenes from the series.
