This was a pretty decent month of reading for us!
Pete’s March wrap-up and April TBR:
Wizards of Once by Cressida Cowell — 3.5 out of 5 stars
The Power by Naomi Alderman — 4 out of 5 stars
Girl Meets Boy by Ali Smith — 4.5 stars
Pyramids by Terry Pratchett — Review to come
Elantris by Brandon Sanderson — Team review to come
The Armored Saint by Myke Cole — Review to come
I had an ambitious list for March, but I got through it all. This past month was almost all fantasy. April is looking a bit more balanced — I even have a nonfiction pick with Robert McKee’s Story. I have been meaning to read this one for years. It’s almost been on my TBR shelf for a decade by now. Tomi Adeyemi’s Children of the Bone sounds like it’s going to be a big one for this year — It’s been on the NYT Bestsellers list for three weeks now, and I think it will hold its place for a while. I’m already a hundred pages into King’s Shield by Sherwood Smith, and so far it’s been filled with moments I’ve been waiting for for two books. I’m also enjoying the start of Meg Wolitzer’s The Interestings. I’ve somehow never read anything by Wolitzer, but I already see why she’s so celebrated. And finally, I’ll be diving back onto the Tower of Babel with Arm of the Sphinx by Josiah Bancroft. Only five books this month, but they’re all fairly hefty, and I’m looking forward to all of them.
Indiana’s March wrap-up:
Anna and the Swallow Man by Gavriel Savit — 3 out of 5 stars
What Alice Forgot by Loraine Moriarty — Review to come
Hillbilly Elegy by J. D. Vance — Review to come
An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir — Review to come
A Torch Against the Night by Sabaa Tahir — Review to come
Elantris by Brandon Sanderson — Review to come
Fortunately, The Milk by Neil Gaiman — Review to come
The shame:
The Idiot by Elif Batman
March was a pretty good reading month for me! I just couldn’t quite finish The Idiot. I’m still about 40 pages from the end. I don’t have as much on my tbr for April for some reason. I think it’s going to be one of those months where I’m going to be okay finding other things to read that I didn’t necessarily plan to get into.
The sequel to The Doldrums is at the top of my list. I’m excited to finally delve into this one and find out what else is going on with the lovely cast of characters. Next, I picked up Children of the Bone by Tomi Adeyemi. It sounds like an amazing YA and I’m really looking forward to reading this one. To break things up I’m also reading After Henry by Joan Didion. It’s one of the few works of hers I haven’t gotten to yet so I plan to savor it. Finally, I’ll be reading The Stranger Beside Me by Anne Rule for a book club. Although true crime isn’t typically on my tbr list I’m curious about this one.
What’s everyone else reading this month?
