Several spacefarers find themselves stranded at a remote hotel and take the time to learn about each others’ cultures and backgrounds in this mellow slice-of-life.

Arcanum Unbounded by Brandon Sanderson
Sanderson compiles several short stories, novellas, and a graphic novel in this Cosmere collection—Edgedancer stands out as the strongest (and most entertaining) piece.

The Moon and Sixpence by W. Somerset Maugham 
A young writer chronicles the life of a bizarre and deviant artist who commits a series of atrocities while pursuing his work.

How Beautiful We Were by Imbolo Mbue 
A weighty and wise book about what happens when a small village fights back against an American oil company destroying its land and water. 

Pachinko by Min Jin Lee
Powerful epic about a Korean family who immigrated to Japan.

The Cruel Prince by Holly Black 
A dark and twisted tale, with not as much romance and a lot more political intrigue than I expected. 

Harrow the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir 
Strange and complex story of necromancers in space.

The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
A YA Knives Out—does it get any better than that?
