Top Ten Tuesday: Backlist Books I Want to Read

No matter how much we read, it seems like we always have a list of books we can never get to. Thanks to That Artsy Reader Girl for another great Top Ten Tuesday idea.

Pete’s Five:

Starship Troopers by Robert A. Heinlein

The only other Heinlein book I’ve read is A Stranger in a Strange Land, which I enjoyed (with some reservations), so I definitely need to read some more new age classics of his.

The Foundation Trilogy by Isaac Asimov

Speaking of new age science fiction, this is another classic I’ve somehow missed. I’ll probably read all three back to back.

Tigana by Guy Gavriel Kay

I know very little about this one, and I’ve kept it this way because everything I’ve heard about Kay indicates that I will enjoy his writing quite a lot.

The Hero with a Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell

Indiana and I have been trying to read this one since the beginning of our relationship. I wish that were an exaggeration.

Dictionary of the Khazars by Milorad Pavic

I found this one on the shelf while working at Strand and knew that Indiana and I had to read it together. It took us years to find the accompanying “male” version (whatever that means), but now that we have both we have no excuse not to read this perplexing tome.

Indiana’s Five:

Moonglow by Michael Chabon

I got this for Christmas nearly two years ago and I’ve been meaning to pick it up ever since.

The Pale King by David Foster Wallace

I think part of my brain is still recovering from reading Infinite Jest a few years back. Since then, I’ve read a few of Wallace’s essay collections, but nothing even close to the length of this (unfinished) novel.

Dune by Frank Herbert

It’s crazy that I haven’t read this one yet. It’s been on my list for years.

The Last Love Song: A Biography of Joan Didion by Tracy Daugherty

I grabbed this one last year and got a bit of the way through it, but put it down. I hope to come back to it someday soon.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

This is another one that I’ve had on my shelf for years. It sounds like a good and strange tale that I’m excited to someday dig into.
